WEST END

Warneet | Mornington Peninsula | Bunurong Country

This extension to a 1960s house adopts a strategic response to connecting living areas with the garden, reinterpreting the functions of the verandah and increasing amenity without increasing building area.

A poorly constructed add-on verandah and a series of compartmentalised rooms are removed and replaced with a contemporary extension comprising open plan living areas, oriented to the rear garden.

A large roof overhang at the rear extension provides generous shade to the west end of the house, allowing increased glazing to dissolve the boundary between the living areas and the landscape.

Large sliding doors and louvre windows bring in the feeling of being in the garden – natural light, breezes, birdsong and sunsets – all while offering protection from the mozzies.
